Country Stitches in Lansing Mi says they lost money too....But they had to have made profit selling hundreds of high-end sewing machines through"rebate" advertising they ran in 2005 AND 2006. They say they didn't know of scam...Cashback has been under Florida BBB scrutiny since 2000.And they continue to make money off those machines because who do you go to for service, cleaning, attachments, classes, and reputted goodwill. Write your state Better Businesss Bureau, your Senators, Representatives, state and federal. Fedeal Trade Commission.

Rebate is done through registered mail, so the gamble did cost us. You mention Cashback out of business by Florida courts....my registered mail stamped R Gooding in Florida Jan. 12, 2008!!!!! The retailers should be held accountable, their names in the press, they were not the victims, but part of the grand scheme to make a profit. Try to remember, when did you receive rebate contract, AFTER purchase of item, "here is your rebate offer, we can't answer any questions or help you with it, just sign here and follow directions." Salesman even said only 10% of people were expected to remember to respond, and our salesman was the repairman, because the store salespeople were so busy with the crowd that came in response to the advertising!!!!! And Country Stitches of Lansing MI. didn't know what they were doing??? Again, retailers should be held accountable.

I too was damaged by Country Stitches of Lansing, Michigan and Cashback America. I am a sewing machine retailer in the State of Michigan. WE NEVER USED Cashback America as I believed it was a scam. We sell one of the same brands of sewing machines that Country
Stitches sells. Here is how I was hurt. We know of many customers that we gave demos to, only to find out that they went to Country Stitches, thinking they were getting a free sewing machine, as the money would be rebated in three years. They even told us they wanted to buy from us but we did not have the program, and then paid more for the machine than we offered it for. The price does not matter because you get all your money back. Of course this happened during the Christmas selling season. I was even called a liar by Country Stitches employess, when I tried to worn customers of the TO GOOD TO BE TRUE scam. Please don't feel sorry of Country Stitches. All viking and Phaff dealers were asked by VSM Seiwing Machine Companys President in a letter dated Jnauary 14, 2005 NOT to enter into agreemnets with Cashback America or the United States Administratives Service to use any of thier promotional programs, and not to use those programs. So Country Stitches was asked by ther supplier not use Cashback America programs. To my knowledge Country
Stitches ran the program at least 2 or 3 more times after the January 14, 2005 letter. They were worned!!!

I bought a pricey sewing machine at Country Stitches in Lansing Michigan. It was a Christmas gift for my wife and since I would get a total rebate cost didn't matter.
I filled out all the paper work and submitted it timely.
No response from the rebater.
All who were stung by this operation should write letters to the editor so their neighbors don't make the same mistake. The letter should name the retailer from whom the purchase was made.

I, too, bought a machine from Robert's Sewing Center and was promised a rebate of over $1500. Even though Cashback is out of business, Mr. Robert's puts the blame on his customers and their incorrect rebate proceedures for not receiving the rebate....not his poor choice of sewing machine promotions. He has lost my business.

I too bought a serger from Country Stitches in Flint, Michigan. I bought the high end priced machine with the belief that I would receive a rebate. I jumped through all of the hoops required, costing more money to send all of the paperwork required by registered mail. Someone did sign for the final set of paperwork I sent in December of 2007. I f they are out of business, who is signing for this stuff? Two of my friends also bought the same serger as I did.

"Retailer", can you make a copy of the letter from VSM available? I am willing to work on the issue in Michigan but a copy of the letter would be very helpful.

My wife purchased two machines, each as seperate transaction, thru a country stitches affiliated store in the Traverse City, MI area. She is/was expecting to get about $4500 back. She filed all of the paperwork as required and also got the signed registered receipt back in Dec.'07. Since this washandled through the US MAIL, COULD IT BE HANDLED AS A FEDERAL MAIL FRAUD CASE? From the checking we've done on line there seems to be a lawsuit and criminal charges pending in the state of FL.
Our question is this. IF there as a settlement with the Fl Att'y Gen will it benefit residents of other states?

As big as this is it would seem that some hot shot lawyer would jump on it as a class action suite. Something is better than nothing.

Add one from Washington State. We and probably many others bought motorhomes in 2006 and up untill late summer of last year the salesman was still advising that our rebate was valid.

My wife bought a Pfaff from Country Stitches in Jackson. We did what the rebate required, and just this week mailed everything required to US Admin in Mr Dora, cerified mail, return receipt, priority mail. I got a sinking feeling this morning when I checked the status of the mail only to find out it wasn't delivered, but a notice was left. So I did a search on US Admin. Hoo-boy! Sinking feeling sunk even farther. What really galls is that Country Stitches had the exact same machine on sale the next week for 25% off. We'll be getting back with (at) them shortly.

Roberts Sewing wins - selling $4,495 sewing machines, promising $1850 rebate. I am stupid. Ken was warned in January 2005 not to do this by Pfaff? I'll be checking that one out - and WRITING everyone I can think of. Pretty ingenious scheme, don't you think - built in delay of 3 years so the perpetrators can make their escape.

I too bought a machine at Country Stitches. I don't blame them because I knew it was possible I wouldn't see all of the $3,000 back, but I am disappointed. I checked today to see if they were still in business because of the stock market. I do believe that they knew it was risky to use this scheme (as did I) but everyone hopes to get a deal. I did purchase with them because of this "supposed deal". It was not smart on my part because I now have to get service somewhere other than closer to home. Lesson learned, and maybe for Country Stitches as well. We were all victims. But we let ourselves be victims for the chance of making/getting a little money back. At least it helped me to make the plunge and finally get a great sewing machine.

I, too, bought a sewing machine from Country Stitches in Lansing in May of 2005. I paid more than I ordinarily would have for a machine because of the promised rebate. I had seen the promotion a number of times. I have a signed receipt for the registered mail, but alas no money. I have contacted the FL Attorney General's office.

I also have been scammed from CBA and (in my opinion) Country Stitches also. I plan on filing a small claims case against Country Stitches to try to recoup my 3k I am out.
